Autonym Press: a most definite work in progress.

We document the liminal, immersive, and ephemeral cultural output of subcultures and scenes we were/are party to, with a primary focus on the San Francisco Bay Area and Greater Cascadia. Our works also offer reflections, design patterns, and something like best practices for collective shenanigans.

Autonym Press is inspired by zine culture, church/union recipe books, and the at times obsessive self-documentation of nordic LARP. It’s also motivated by an awareness that history repeats, especially regarding group dynamics. (And if you’re not sure about that, go read "The Tyranny of Structurelessness” by Jo Freeman, originally written about feminist circles in the 1970s.)

What we're doing

• Trying to remember how to people following a global pandemic
• Executing a salvage operation on a past way of life
• building new networks of solidarity, (and/or "an army of bad bitches tired of some bullshit.")
• Making room for something new to come

What now, then?
